The Works

Cancun is no longer the sleepy resort town of 70,000 that we discovered in 1982. April 20, 2000 was Cancun's 30th Anniversary.

Some statistics published on this big day in the newspaper, "Cancún Voz del Caribe/Reforma": population 703,536; hotel rooms 25,360; visitors per year 2,700,000; grade schools 326; other schools 26; automobiles 80,000, public transport buses 440; newspapers 6; radio stations 7; movie theaters 35; alcoholic beverage outlets 5,000; discoteques 11; shopping centers 34. The present population is 10 times what it was when we arrived in May, 1982. The anticipated growth is far beyond what the present infrastructure will bear.

Our challenge is to reach all of these groups of people. Our works span social, economic and cultural levels, each one distinct in its approach and emphasis. But the purpose of them all is to reach souls for the Lord and to enable them to mature in him. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (Ephesians 4:13).
