Where We Live

The State of Quintana Roo is located in the eastern part of the Yucatán Peninsula at the southeastern tip of Mexico. It has a surface of 50,212 square kilometers. The State faces the Caribbean Sea on its northern and eastern coasts. On its borders lie Belize and Guatemala to the south, and the states of Campeche and Yucatán to the west.

The state's name comes from Andrés Quintana Roo, a Mexican figure who played an important role in the Independence movement and in the creation of the Republic.

On October 8, 1974, after having filled population and economic requirements, the State of Quintana Roo was awarded the status of a Free Sovereign State, thus preserving its ancient surface and borders. The local constitution was promulgated on January 12, 1975.

Quintana Roo is the youngest state of the Mexican Republic. It is also host to the most important tourist complex in Mexico and considered one of the finest in the world.

Its white beaches combined with the beautiful clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea form an enchanting vacation spot. The climate in Quintana Roo is generally warm and sunny with the exception of the occasional hurricane.
