The Works - Region 103

The Iglesia Bautista Independiente "Berea" was a mission church started by the Iglesia Bautista Berea in 1991.

It is comprised primarily of people of Mayan descent and of very low income levels. As a mission, they began meeting in the home pictured here (which is typical of how many people must start out when they move to Cancun). It looks much different now because they have had to make room for more and more people that attend regularly. With their own offerings and labor, they have worked little by little on a permanent, cement block structure on this same property. They now have an auditorium that accomodates 150 people.

Initially, Pastor Jaime Balam with other key members from the Iglesia Bautista Berea were in charge of conducting this work in Región 103.

Juan López and his family moved to Cancun over 10 years ago from the state of Tabasco. About two years ago, after a lengthy time of training, Juan was ordained to the ministry and was received as their full-time pastor. He and his wife, Francisca, continue working faithfully there.

What was once a mission in the boondocks at the edge of the jungle, is now a strategically located church surrounded by a heavily populated and growing area of Cancun.
